New goals / Nous objectius

After nine months of work I have finished my second full-lenght script. This Monday I handed in The Company's definitive script . Now I only have two things left to do: Waiting for my mark and trying to have it read by a producer. It doesn't sound easy even when you read it. I was adviced to get an agent so I'll guess I'll start looking up for agencies in both the UK and the USA... I'm not sure any Spanish or Catalan agency would be appropriate for a project the size of The Company -if you think I'm wrong I'll be extremely grateful if you tell me so-. After that I'll get a killer pitch and an equally good cover letter ready, I'll send them to the agencies and... alea iacta est. There's not much else I can do from now on but to persist. In addition to that the same friend -a good professional who has been very helpful with this last draft- told me to check some minor details on the script and to try and implement a few alternatives scenes to see if they worked better, so although I the project's finished I will work on it a bit more while trying to have it read. I won't make any comments on my laboral situation now that I have finished my Master's degree. I'm in Catalonia -still in Spain although it seems this could change- and everybody knows how hard it is now to get any kind of job here. This is a blog on scriptwriting so it's not the best place for me to moan. I'll just move on.

I'm working on a few other things now. Nothing to make money on -at least by now- but this won't keep me away from keeping on writing. I have a bunch of projects to work in. All of them are collaborative, so I have the chance to improve my team-working skills, which is always very helpful. Here's a list of them, arranged by their stages of development:

- I'll finish rewriting my first film. It's a fantasy-adventure animated movie I've been working in for some four years. It has changed massively since then and I've grown a lot as a scriptwriter thanks to it, but it's about time to take it to a definitive stage and to start promoting it. We (the project's other half and me) have some plans and ideas on it and I will explain them in later posts, as it is a very interesting topic involving not only the creative process but also how can we unknown writers get a chance to have our produced... or at least read/seen.

- For the past few months I've also been working on-and-off with a small group of people in a very exciting project: We're doing a videogame, an RPG. Of course it won't be a full game with over-the-top 3D graphics and hours and hours of gameplay but we intend to produce the first hours of gameplay of a small but well-crafted role-playing game, a proof of what we can do in our respective fields of expertise. It will probably be one of the projects I'll focus the most on so I'll give you more details and keep you up to date about it over the following months. Our aim is to have something good enough to show in one year, by the end of summer 2013.

- I will get back to a project that has been in a hiatus for a few months now. When I was still in Leeds an English producer asked me if I wanted to write a low-budget film with him and to shoot it in Barcelona as soon as possible. Compared to the other projects it has a more arty, experimental side I feel quite attracted to, and it could also be a good starting point for me to enter the cinema industry and to meet people to work with in the future. I've already been working on the plot for a while, but I won't say much more about this project, as it's not my idea so I wouldn't like to say something I shouldn't.

- I also want to start writing another film. A couple of months ago I showed one of my university projects -a TV series' proposal- to a friend. It somehow triggered lots of ideas in his head, so after a few beers we decided to try doing a low-budget feature film loosely based on what I had written. Yet another project to work in although it is in a very primary state, a bunch of diffuse concepts rather than a clear idea, but then again this is how most things start. Another thing I'll keep the blog updated about over my next posts. I look forward to write about this particular one because it will allow me to have a written record of all the process from the very start, which I find very interesting from a... let's call it "scriptwriting-theory" point of view.

And that's all... I've been away for a while so the post had to be long if I wanted to leave the blog properly up to date. Now that I'm definitely back I'll write new posts often, with more thoughts, works and so on...

Després de nou mesos de feina he acabat el guió del meu segon llargmetratge. Aquest dilluns vaig entregar el guió definitiu de The Company. Ara només em queden dues coses per fer: Esperar la nota i intentar que se'l llegeixi un productor. No sona senzill ni quan ho llegeixes. Em van recomanar que em fes amb els serveix d'un agent de manera que suposo que començaré a buscar agències al Regne Unit i als Estats Units... No estic segur que cap agència catalana o espanyola sigui la més indicada per un projecte de la mida de The Company -si creieu que m'equivoco us estaré enormement agraïts si m'ho dieu-. Després prepararé un pitch espectacular i una carta de presentació igual de bona, ho enviaré tot a les agències... i alea iacta est. A partir d'ara no puc fer gaire cosa més que persistir. A més d'això el mateix amic -un bon professional que m'ha ajudat molt en aquest darrer esborrany- em va dir que repassés alguns detalls del guió i que intentés implementar algunes escenes alternatives per veure si funcionaven millor, de manera que encara que el projecte està acabat encara hi treballaré una mica més mentre intento aconseguir que el llegeixin. No faré cap comentari referent a la meva situació laboral ara que he acabat el màster. Sóc a Catalunya -encara a Espanya tot i que sembla que això podria canviar- i totom sap com n'és de difícil de trobar qualsevol tipus de feina aquí. Aquest és un blog sobre escriptura de manera que no és el millor lloc per fer el ploricó. Segueixo.

Estic treballant en unes quantes altres coses. Res que em pugui donar calers -al menys de moment- però això no farà pas que deixi d'escriure. Tinc un grapat de projectes en els quals treballar. Tots ells són col·laboratius de manera que tinc l'oportunitat de millorar la meva capacitat de treballar en equip, cosa que sempre és d'agraïr. Faig una llista amb tots ells, ordenats segons el seu nivell de desenvolupament:

- Acabaré de reescriure la meva primera pel·lícula. És un llargmetratge d'animació de fantasia-aventura en el que he estat treballant durant uns quatre anys. Ha canviat molt des d'aleshores i gràcies a ella he crescut molt com a guionista, però ja és hora de dur-la a un estadi definitiu i començar a promocionar-la. L'altra meitat del projecte i jo tenim algunes idees i plans per fer-ho. Ho explicaré en posts posteriors perquè és un tema molt interessant, que comprèn no només el procés creatiu sinó també la manera com escriptors desconeguts podem tenir una oportunitat d'aconseguir que els nostres treballs es produeixin... o al menys que es llegeixin/vegin.

- Durant els darrers mesos també he estat treballant intermitentment amb un petit grup de persones en un projecte molt emocionant: Estem fent un videojoc, un RPG. Evidentment no serà un joc complet amb excel·lents gràfics en 3D i hores i hores de joc però volem produïr les primeres hores de joc d'un joc de rol petit però ben acabat, una prova del que cadascú de nosaltres pot fer en els nostres respectius àmbits de treball. Probablement serà un dels projectes en els que em concentraré més o sigui que donaré més detalls i mantindré el blog actualitzat durant els mesos següents. El nostre objectiu és tenir alguna cosa llesta per ensenyar d'aquí un any, a final de l'estiu del 2013.

- Tornaré a posar-me amb un projecte que ha estat paralitzat durant els últims mesos. Mentre era a Leeds un productor anglès em va preguntar si volia escriure una pel·lícula de baix pressupost amb ell per rodar-la a Barcelona el més aviat possible. Comparat amb els altres projectes té un costat més artístic, més experimental, que m'atreu bastant. A més també pot ser un bon punt de partida per entrar a la indústria del cinema i per conèixer gent amb la que podria treballar en el futur. He estat treballant en l'argument durant un temps, però no diré gaire cosa sobre aquest projecte perquè no és la meva idea i no voldria parlar més del compte.

- També vull començar a escriure un altre llargmetratge. Fa un parell de mesos li vaig ensenyar un dels meus projectes de la universitat -la proposta d'una sèrie de televisió- a un amic. D'alguna manera això li va fer venir un munt d'idees al cap i al cap d'unes cerveses vam decidir intentar fer una pel·lícula de baix pressupost basada vagament en el que havia escrit. Un altre projecte en el que treballar, tot i que està en un estadi molt primari, una pila de conceptes difusos més que no pas una idea clara, però així és com tot comença. Una altra cosa sobre la que aniré mantenint el blog actualitzat durant els posts següents. Espero seguir escrivint sobre aquest projecte perquè em permetrà tenir una memòria escrita de tot el procés des del principi, cosa que em sembla molt interessant des del punt de vista de... diguem-ne "teoria del guió".

Això és tot... he estat fora durant bastant de temps de manera que el post havia de ser llarg si volia deixar el blog ben actualitzat. Ara que he tornat definitivament escriuré sovint, amb més reflexions, treballs...
